Methodology and Data Sources

Base salary estimates start from BLS Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS), May 2025 data for psychologist occupational categories (SOC 19-3030, 19-3032, 19-3033, 19-3034, 19-3039). State multipliers are derived from BLS May 2025 state-level mean wage data for clinical and counseling psychologists. BLS did not publish May 2025 clinical estimates for Connecticut, Maryland or Maine; those states use the most recent published data or a regional proxy.

Specialty adjustments are based on BLS specialty-level data where available (I-O, clinical, school) and on professional association surveys for specialties without dedicated BLS codes (forensic, neuropsychology). The I-O base uses the BLS mean rather than the median because the I-O survey sample is tiny (790 jobs) and its estimates swing hard year to year.

This calculator provides salary estimates for informational purposes only. Actual compensation depends on many factors including employer, negotiation, benefits, and local market conditions. The estimates represent typical ranges, not guarantees.
